Ian Bidstrup
A Melbourne veterinary
graduate of 1980, Ian has had a long-term interest in the more subtle conditions
of the spine. His interest came to the fore when he attended his first acupuncture
course in 1991. This course led him to study in America in 1993, complete a
certificate of veterinary chiropractic from the American Veterinary Chiropractic
Association in 1995, and in the same year complete a certificate in veterinary
acupuncture from the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (USA).
These were the highest qualifications available at the time.
In 1997 Ian left a partnership
in an equine and mixed practice to pursue a full time practice of veterinary
chiropractic and acupuncture. He continues to pursue this today. In 1999 he
completed a Graduate Diploma in Animal Chiropractic at the RMIT University.
Currently he is in the final stages of completing a masters degree in animal
chiropractic. The RMIT Master of Chiropractic is the highest qualification in
animal chiropractic available in the world and has had students from the UK
and NZ and is envied by certificate holders in America. Ian's thesis is on girth
pain syndrome of horses and the response to chiropractic manipulation.
Ian is also currently a
part time lecturer at the RMIT University Graduate Diploma in Chiropractic (Animal
Chiropractic) and the principal lecturer at the Australian Saddle Fit Course
(An intensive two day course for saddlers, veterinarians and those dealing with
the body of the horse).
